Tinubu Approves Licences for Kolmani Project

President Bola Tinubu has approved all necessary regulatory licences for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project. The multibillion-dollar oil exploration venture spans Bauchi and Gombe states and aims to boost Nigeria’s oil production and economic output.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, announced the approval during the groundbreaking of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri. He said the approval aligns with the government’s push to activate all hydrocarbon platforms across the country.

In a statement on Sunday, Lokpobiri’s media aide, Nneamaka Okafor, confirmed the move targets increased oil output. Lokpobiri added that President Tinubu seeks to transform Nigeria’s energy sector to drive industrial growth, generate employment, and improve national revenue.

Lokpobiri commended Bauchi State for aligning with federal energy goals. He said the new oil and gas academy will train local professionals to support Nigeria’s energy sector and reduce dependence on foreign expertise.

He praised the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for its strong role in manpower development. He expressed hope that the new academy will partner with PTDF to build a skilled and future-ready energy workforce.

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, thanked the Federal Government for supporting the academy. He said the institution would foster innovation and skill acquisition for both Bauchi State and the entire country.

The Kolmani project, launched in November 2022, marked the start of oil exploration in Northern Nigeria. It lies in the Kolmani River II oil field, located between Bauchi and Gombe states.

Group Chief Executive of NNPC Limited, Bayo Ojulari, said the company will resume drilling at the site. He added that the project will reopen dormant companies, launch new ventures, and complete the Ajaokuta-Kano gas pipeline to boost regional development.
